NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO WEST

Bournville 46 Camborne 35

Camborne gave a performance full of determination and pride to pick up a deserved bonus point in defeat on the outskirts of Birmingham.

Going behind 12-0 early on it looked likely to be a long afternoon for ‘Town’ who included debutants Pete Davison and Callum Davies, but they hit back to maul Ben Priddey over the try line with Connor Gilbert striking an excellent conversion.

Though Bournville increased their advantage in the second quarter, Camborne retaliated, earning a close range penalty try for 26-14 at the break.

Soon after the resumption the deficit was narrowed to only three points when lock Jack Heazelton dotted down to round off a bout of handling for centre Gilbert to add the extras.

The home side then pulled clear at 40-21, but again the spirited visitors would not lie down and bagged the bonus point with a remarkable 23rd try of the season for hooker Priddey, which was again converted by Gilbert.

The Cherry and Whites gave second team stalwarts Callum Looker, Matt Penrose and James Harrison-Evans a run out in the pack, and a debut to wing Morgan Larkins.

Bournville took no chances by adding a brace of long range penalties, but there was still time for a last defiant act of resistance by Camborne.

Playing out of position on the wing, young Jago Sheppard galloped fully 45 metres for a superb touch down with replacement Dom Trengove adding a majestic conversion from the touchline.
