THE Atlantic Karate Club hosted its much-anticipated annual awards ceremony at the Oceanside Hotel in Newquay on Saturday, January 11.
The event brought together students, instructors, and families to honor the exceptional achievements and dedication of club members over the past year.
The ceremony celebrated the discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship that define the martial art of karate. Awards were presented across multiple categories, including Best Kata, Most Improved Karateka, and Students Student Award (voted by the students).
In his opening address, Head Instructor Sensei Lee Phillips, a 4th Dan black belt, commended the commitment of the students and the unwavering support of their families. “Karate is not just about physical ability; it’s about character, respect, and resilience. Tonight, we celebrate not only skills but the spirit of karate that shines in each of you,” he remarked.
The winners of the awards were as follows: Student Student Awards: Juniors – Brodie; Young Seniors – Evan; Most Improved Karateka: Juniors – Alice and Young Seniors – Theo; Slightly Sillier Awards: They were handed out to some of the Seniors celebrating their 'unique' style in some cases and also to reflect on the fun at training.
Reflecting on the evening, a club spokesperson said: “We also held a club raffle, every attendee was issued with a raffle tickets and we raffled off lots of club provided prizes and also we had generous donations from local businesses such as Lighthouse Cinema, Jackson's Wine Bar (Nanceledan) and Fixbox (Chester Road). All these prizes were handed out on the night.”
The event concluded with a heartfelt message from Sensei Lee, encouraging all members to continue striving for excellence in their training and personal development.
