I popped into the pub and saw Rog the Oil was in, chatting to Ivor, the landlord and Carley the barmaid who was on her night off - I know, strange.

I hadn’t seen Rog for a couple of weeks, due to his daughter’s wedding. I was keen to know how it had gone, especially his suit, with the dubious measurements.

The suit was fine, apparently, apart from the trousers being a bit loose, not surprising since he told his daughter to “add two inches to each measurement”. I suspect she may have ignored the instruction. He was still sporting a cut on his hooter, courtesy of him walking into a window on the morning of the wedding, leading nose first, which did little to help his rugged looks.

Patched up, he was well into his speech (he is a well known local raconteur) later in the day. However, it’s a style not to everyone’s taste and his sister in law suddenly passed out. I hasten to add she’s fine, and, as a place to do it, it was ideal as Rog’s daughter is a doctor so half the audience were medics of one sort or another. Rog was stoic in the comments about this being the normal effect of his public speaking, especially sporting a schnoz like Rudolph’s, and apparently his speech was brilliant, despite the interruptions. Needless to say, a few pints got things back on track for a great day.

Carley was quick to tell me she had changed her car again. Apparently, the A class Merc she had didn’t meet her needs after a couple of cabriolets, which we were all at pains to tell her at the time. She now has another Merc cabriolet and loves it, and this time she just traded the old one in, as opposed to writing it off, which adds a lot of complexity. She told all this helpful advice in good humour (mainly).

It was just a lovely early summer evening, in good company with the sun shining, what a great start to the weekend.
