MICKY has fully nearly recovered from his traumatic injury, pulling a muscle getting out of bed.

He popped into the New Inn, where Rog and I were well ensconced at the bar watching the England rugby match against Wales, which turned out to be a pretty joyous affair.

Micky had been to watch Plymouth Argyle, as usual leaving at 5am to get to a 3pm game almost an hour’s drive away. It hadn’t gone well, with Plymouth losing late on and then Micky, our pocket rocket, getting caught by an altercation between two elderly fans at the end.

Micky, now in his eighth decade, was sat near the exit ready for the speedy dash into the car park, when they started yelling at each other.

As he explained it, to a delighted Rog, they were sat on either side of him and things got heated which led to them trying to trade geriatric handbags with each other.

Luckily, as Micky is not tall (in any way), any attempted blows went over his head and he was a safe as houses. He was happy to hear the final whistle so he could quietly slip away.

It all led to a jovial atmosphere in the pub, especially given the England win, so Rog and I started planning for the summer.

In a brainwave, we decided we need to visit all the pubs in and around Bodmin, some by foot, some not, in what could be a glorious safari.

The immediate ones are definitely walkable - the Blisland, St Tudy, St Mabyn, maybe the Jamaica Inn. The Rising Sun might need more training and the Bettle and Chisel is definitely a hike.

I was thinking we might need a lift back from some, but then thought getting a lift back would always be a good idea, given the need to restore lost calories!

I look forward to keeping you posted.
