AFTER following the scenic coast path to the north of Land’s End, today we have arrived at beautiful Sennen Cove, as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County.

Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “Last time our lovely tour around Cornwall reached a milestone with our arrival at Land’s End. Up until then, we had been making our way along the superb south coast of the county, recently visiting Porthcurno, Mousehole and Mount’s Bay.

“The latest part of the tour sees us heading along the extensive northern coast of Cornwall which is generally more rugged and wilder than the coast we have been exploring.”

Sennen Cove offers a large beach which faces out towards the wide open Atlantic Ocean. You will get waves here, sometimes very big waves that crash against the coastline and send spray high into the air.

Thankfully, summertime waves are usually of a size that are of use to surfers and bodyboarders.

The waters around Sennen Cove have been known to attract basking sharks, but have no fear because they are harmless to humans.

You may, in addition, see gig rowers practising their sport offshore. Gigs are basically fast rowing boats, and gig racing is popular in Cornwall.

Each year, competitors from the county and further afield travel to the Isles of Scilly for the annual gig racing world championships.

Next time, we will be visiting Cape Cornwall which has been shaped by its busy industrial past but is now a quiet location in a picturesque setting.

Our extensive tour around Cornwall, visiting well-known spots but also lesser-known locations, offers something for everyone, from sandy beaches, remote moorland, storm-beaten cliffs and scenic rivers to historic towns, pretty villages, mining relics and visitor attractions.
