THE marvellous mix of scenery in the St Agnes area features today, as the Voice continues its serialisation of the travel book, Cornwall Favourites For One And All!: A Quick Guide To Good Places To Visit Across The County,.

Voice journalist Andrew Townsend, the author of the book, says: “Our journeying around Cornwall has so far seen us travelling along the superb south coast and then exploring the wonderful far west of the county, including Sennen Cove, the Tin Coast and St Ives.

“For the latest part of the tour, we are following the extensive northern coast of Cornwall in a generally north-easterly direction. This coastline has some lovely scenery and is well worth a visit.”

From the top of St Agnes Beacon, you get a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside and the sea, after a steady but not too arduous climb.

Evocative buildings from Cornwall’s mining past are scattered across the district.

On the coast, south of the compact town of St Agnes, is Wheal Coates, a former mining site that is now looked after by the National Trust. The preserved ruins of the engine house have inspired many a photograph and painting.

The spectacular cliffs in the area are broken up by two sandy beaches, namely Chapel Porth and Trevaunance Cove. The latter is the main beach at St Agnes and, when the tide is out, it has plenty of space and there are caves to explore.

To the north east, the coast path takes you past Perranporth Airfield and its light aircraft.

Next time, we will in Perranporth, one of the main centres for surfing in Cornwall.
