Land’s End marks the most westerly point on the English mainland. The area is, indeed, wild and rugged with spectacular coastal scenery, and also plays host to a number of tourist attractions.
A must while here is to pose for a photograph by the famous Land’s End finger signpost which was put up in the 1950s.
The signpost tells you that New York is 3,147 miles away to the west. The Isles of Scilly are some 28 miles off the coast, and on a clear day you can make them out, while the Longships Lighthouse is around one-and-a-half miles offshore.
The stories of End-to-Enders, those who have walked, run or cycled etc, from or to John o’Groats in the north of Scotland (traditionally a route of around 874 miles/1,407 kilometres) for good causes can also be discovered here.
Next time, after taking the scenic coast path to the north of Land’s End, we will be arriving at beautiful Sennen Cove.
