I LOVE Christmas and set apart from almost every Christmas song that I love listening to is one song called “Love Came Down At Christmas”.
It is often sung as a short choral piece and right from the start reminds us of the simple truth of Jesus who has come into the world.
It reminds me of the great love that God has for us which led him to send his son as an expression of this love for everyone in the world regardless of background, ethnicity and culture.
Down through the millennia, millions of people (including me) have discovered this love and begun to understand what it means for their lives.
This Christmas I would encourage us all to take some time away from the busyness of shopping and preparations just to think about the baby Jesus, born in humble circumstances but who grew into the man who changed the course of history like no other.
His message is simple to us as he expresses God’s love for us all.
When Jesus was older and teaching his disciples, he said this: “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”
I have heard politicians recently talking about a need for a “reset” for our country but without providing clarity as to how this is to be done.
In contrast, Jesus invites us to take a reset in our lives and to make space for him so that we can enjoy a life of peace and joy which we sing so much about in our traditional carols. The result is a very clear understanding of the love of God, who sent his son as an expression of his love for us.
Love really has come down at Christmas!
