Green Party – Catherine Hayes
A vote for me and the Green Party is a vote for housing rights for all. With over 23,000 families on housing waiting lists and over 49,000 private renters in Cornwall, with no security of tenure and often living in damp, mouldy homes, voters need to send a clear message – we can’t wait any longer for our housing rights to be protected.
Quite simply, we must legislate to tackle housing inequality and ensure that housing stock is used to its fullest potential to solve the housing crisis. We must build – and restore empty and substandard properties – to the highest sustainable standards. We must stem the rising tide of homelessness by repealing Section 21.
Huge numbers of our young children are living in unsuitable emergency accommodation, with highly damaging impacts on their well-being. This is also a huge drain on council budgets. In the long term it’s so much more cost-effective to create secure social housing.
Housing in Cornwall has become totally unaffordable relative to local wages, and councils like ours need to be able to introduce local rent controls.
I’m the only voice in Camborne and Redruth demanding real change on this crucial issue.
