THE vice-chairman of Cornwall Council has announced he will be standing for re-election in the council elections in May.

Conservative Jordan Rowse, who represents Bethel and Holmbush in St Austell, said: “I’ve been a councillor for nearly a decade now. I love it. It’s the best job in the world - getting to go to work every day and represent your home patch, to improve the local area, making it safer to live in, a better place to work in and the best place to grow up in.

“I am delighted to confirm that I am re-standing to be the Cornwall councillor for Bethel and Holmbush at the Cornwall Council elections on May 1.”

Cllr Rowse was elected for Bethel and Holmbush in May 2021. Before this, he was the Cornwall councillor for Par, Biscovey and St Blazey Gate between 2017 and 2021.

Cllr Rowse is the youngest councillor to ever sit on Cornwall Council, having first been elected at the age of 20. He became the youngest vice-chairman, at the age of 24, in June 2021.

Cllr Rowse, who is also a St Austell town councillor, has worked for a number of Cornish MPs since 2015, allowing him to be involved in both local and national politics.

He sits as a director of the St Austell Bay Economic Forum and is the chairman of Biscovey Football Club.

Referring to his role as a Cornwall councillor for Bethel and Holmbush, Cllr Rowe said: “I have absolutely loved every minute of the last four years and I genuinely believe we have made huge progress in that time.

“People feel safer, our parks have been upgraded and have new equipment, and a record number of roads have been resurfaced in this time.”

Cornwall Council has 87 electoral divisions and there is a councillor for each one.
