WORK to give Newquay’s most popular play park a £152,000 makeover is set to start after the October half term.

Four companies have tendered to install the new equipment, which is due to be chosen by residents during a public consultation. Meetings have already been held with a number of the local primary schools, which will be fed into the final design.

The upgraded play park is due to include an all-weather surface as the area suffers from drainage issues. Accessible play equipment is also planned to cater for children with disabilities.

The play facility has been awarded £100,000 of investment from Cornwall Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Fund and some other funds from the unitary authority.

Funds were applied for to upgrade the play park next to the Heron Tennis Centre following concerns the facility is falling into disrepair.

Newquay Central Cornwall councillor Louis Gardner said: “The latest update is that four companies have tendered for the new play park at Trenance.

“The intention is to do public consultation and we want the public to pick their favourite. I’m hoping that consultation will be ready to go live next week. It will be online and in the library. We are looking to start work after the October half-term.”
