Do you belt out Beyonce in the shower as if no one is listening? What would you do if they were? Tomorrow’s Shower to Stage event at the Alverton will see 14 intrepid women find out when they sing in front of a packed house.
The evening of glitz and glamour will raise money for two good causes.
The fundraising social event is the brainchild of two Cornish entrepreneurs: business coach Jay-Anne Dingwall, and singing coach Liz Ashton, who has sung with Earth, Wind and Fire and now leads the tribute act Motown Pirates.
The pair are looking to raise £10,000 for Your Voice CIC and Out of the Woods Play and Creative Arts Therapy CIC.
“With ticket sales now sold out, they are well on their way to achieving their target through sponsorship and donations,” said Jay-Anne. “We started out just wanting to sing, but also to do something special – on a par with the Ultra White Collar Boxing, which aims to teach people to box in two weeks while raising money for charity. The transformation of these 14 women has been mind-blowing, and a bit of a surprise to us all.”
Participants have been preparing since June with Liz, who has been putting them through their paces. “All the women have been awesome pushing themselves out of their comfort zones,” she said. “They have gained so much in confidence, and it’s been inspirational and uplifting for us all.
“We would like to take everyone else on that journey for one night.”
The evening will be compère by award-winning Cornish stand-up comedian, actress and writer Anna Keirle, who appeared in the BBC Radio 4 series Wosson Cornwall. A raffle will include prizes from many donors and sponsors, including Brooks Financial Services, Rewind Radio, Cornwall Channel, Sekoya and Life Star Medical Ltd.
“We will be singing our hearts out in the hope that the money we raise will enable more young female voices to be heard in the Cornwall,” Jay-Anne added.
