A woman was injured following a collision between a car and a tractor, which caused St Columb Major to become gridlocked.

Police closed the St Columb bypass on the A39 following the accident on Monday, December 30 at 7.40am.

Firefighters used crash rescue equipment to free a woman from her vehicle. She was taken to hospital with a chest injury, which is not believed to be life-changing or threatening.

The St Columb bypass was closed in both directions between Trekenning and Winnard’s Perch until 1.55pm. Diversions were put in place, which caused traffic to become congested.

A police spokesperson said: “Fortunately, the injured party’s injuries aren’t considered to be serious. The road has reopened.”

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Pumping appliances from St Columb and Newquay, along with the Rescue Tender from Bodmin responded to this incident.

“On arrival a road traffic collision involving a car and tractor was discovered. Firefighters assisted to release one of the occupants using crash rescue equipment.”
