ADVERSE weather conditions did not dampen any spirits as Camborne Show celebrated it’s 80th anniversary on Saturday.
The annual show, which honours Camborne's rural heritage, returned to Gwealavellan Farm field for a day of fun and entertainment for all the family despite the wet conditions.
The Camborne Show is steeped in Cornish history. It was set up by the Holman family in 1941 with the help and support of local farmers, while the first show took place a year later.
The historic event saw both the traditional horse displays and cattle section prove popular once again, with numerous prizes and trophies handed out to well-deserved entries.
The Heavy Horse Society ran a specialist section for Heavy Horse breeds, while showjumping events also took place throughout the day.
A wide range of cattle classes included Ayrshires, Holsteins, Guernseys, Jerseys, South Devons, Devons, British Simmentals, Native & Continental Beef Breeds, Young Handlers, Young Farmers.
Awards were also given out to pooches and their owners as part of the fun dog show, which was organised with the help of dog welfare charity K9 Crusaders.
Caged birds were present as part of the Maggie Bates Memorial Show. Special rosettes were awarded in honour Maggie’s hard work within bird world community and her contribution to the Camborne Show in previous years.
The horticulture section, in conjunction with The Kehelland Trust, provided a large marquee with a wide selection of classes for vegetables, fruit, flowers and floral art, pot plants and creative children's classes.
The huge craft and domestic marquee offered a variety of classes too, including baking, knitting, woodwork, photography and a selection of team classes for both adults and juniors. The were plenty of demonstrations and ‘have a go’ activities in the tent, some of which followed the themes of the show’s 80th year and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Classic cars and agricultural vehicles also made there way to the show, with mostly legendary British marques being represented. Performing live music throughout the day include Jumping Out, Kernow Pipes & Drums, Camborne Brass, Kewbanda and Cadgwith Singers.
This year Camborne Show’s chosen charity is the MND Association, with a percentage of the money raised going towards the cause.
