Volunteers have helped to repair damage to the fragile Fistral Dunes in Newquay caused by winter storms.
Friends of Fistral Dunes, which aims to protect, restore and preserve the site, staged a volunteer day where marram grass was planted to help hold the sand in place. They also stabilised the dune face.
A spokesperson said: “We held a volunteer day which was really successful. Nine of us took part in two different activities.
“We transplanted marram from the golf course to the northern end of the dunes. Hopefully, that will grow and spread and hold the sand in place.
“We also filled some hessian sacks with sand to help stabilise the sheer dune face on the southern access path. It was a great morning.
“We recognise that this year has seen a lot of erosion of the front face of the dunes due to storms and so there is less and less sand around.
“To help our fragile and limited dune system, we ask everyone to stick to the official paths and not tread on any marram grass.
“A big thank you to Newquay Golf Club for letting us access some of their luscious pockets of marram, Cormac, the Making Space for Sand Project and to our excellent volunteers.
“Anyone who wants to help us next time should keep an eye out for future volunteer days. There will be one in March.”
