Residents have expressed fears plans to build a luxury holiday resort near Quintrell Downs would have a detrimental impact on the community.

Dozens of people attended a public consultation held to give people an opportunity to have their say on a proposal to construct up to 400 lodges on 67.1 hectares of undeveloped land at Mount Joy to create the Green Ridge Resort.

The scheme also involves constructing 20 accommodation units for staff, a reception area, a swimming pool and spa, indoor activity centre and food and beverage outlets.

Other activities are proposed including a water park, splash park, playground, dog walking trail, walking trails and seasonal outdoor events area.

The holiday park would additionally include a series of permanent lakes, a new highway access to the A392, extensive landscaping and an on-site solar farm to generate energy for all the accommodation units.

Residents attended the public consultation staged by developers Kingsley Developments and its partners in the project Royale Resorts, which was held at Quintrell Downs Village Hall on Wednesday.

People highlighted concerns the luxury holiday resort scheme would exacerbate traffic problems in Quintrell Downs and would impact wildlife as well as doctors and dentists. They said they would prefer the scheme to be built on a brownfield site rather than on farmland.
