A joint police task force carried out an operation in Newquay yesterday (March 7) to target what officers said were “dangerous” drugs networks.
Merseyside Police’s Matrix vehicle enforcement team and unmarked police vehicles stopped cars as part of an investigation into county lines drug dealing.
Vehicles were spotted being stopped along Henver Road, Mount Wise and at Quintrell Downs.
A vehicle was seen being winched away on a low loader outside Newquay Police Station.
An eye-witness said: “Merseyside’s Matrix gangbuster police teams stopped two vehicles separately on Mount Wise and cuffed at least one occupant who was seen kneeling in the gutter."
Another eyewitness said: “It was pretty hectic along Henver Road and up to Quintrell Downs with loads of motor vehicles getting pulled left right and centre by unmarked cars.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers carried out proactive and preventative work in the Newquay area on Tuesday as part of an operation to target dangerous drugs networks, specifically County Lines, and safeguard vulnerable people within those networks.
“We are unable to provide further details at this time, for operational reasons.”
