INVESTMENT worth more than fifty thousand pounds has resulted in new gym equipment and an improved, more vibrant feel at Better Helston Sports Centre.
Completion of the work has been marked with the launch of a new fitness programme, an increase in staffing and a new seniors’ activity session.
Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that has been running the Helston centre on behalf of Cornwall Council since 2017.
“It’s a really exciting time for Helston,” said Amelia Kitchen, GLL Senior General Manager. “We’ve listened to what our customers want, added new classes to meet popular demand and welcomed some brilliant new instructors.
“Our women's only small group training sessions, for example, provide an opportunity to learn the basics of strength training in a relaxed, welcoming environment and are proving very successful.
“We also run a senior's club on Thursdays that offers low impact classes, dedicated swimming and a chance to relax and enjoy a chat over a cuppa.
“We’re always happy for people to pop in, see what we offer and have a tour because, no matter what your age, experience or health condition, moving more can help.”
Mike Thomas, Independent Cornwall Councillor for Helston North, visits the centre regularly.
He said: “I’m delighted to see such a great investment in health and fitness products at Helston Sports Centre. The new kit is brilliant and the whole gym feels fresh and vibrant.
“I encourage more people to reap the rewards of such a great project and look forward to seeing what may come in the future.”
Helston Sports Centre is holding an open weekend on 23 and 24 November.
