A TWO-DAY festival celebrating Cornish culture, arts and crafts is taking place in an ancient setting this weekend.

ISOT (In Search Of Tywardreath), a local history and archaeological group that aims to draw attention to the rich past of the village near Par, is hosting the Tiwardrai Fest at Newhouse Farm on Saturday and Sunday (May 25 and 26).

The farm is on the site of the former medieval Tywardreath Priory.

Events will run each day from 10am to 4pm.

A spokesperson said: “Spinning, knitting, ganseys, basket and willow weaving, wood carving, the Cornish language, leather fobs, pomanders, and pottery and ceramics will all be featured.

“Visitors will be able to talk to beekeepers and a medical herbalist. They will hear about plants and herbs, the ancient ways and days, and Cornwall heritage.

“There will be music by Rum and Shrub, Ryp an Mor, the Barts Beats Samba Band, Kescana, and Heb Mor, and dancing with the Tywardreath Morris.

“Meanwhile, the Bird Lady of Fowey will have her beautiful birds of prey. People will be able to listen to Cornish folk tales and sample local brews. There will also be activities for children.

“Entry is £5 at gate and proceeds will go to local charities.”
