Truro School has been named the winner of the prestigious Talk Education National Awards for Performing and Creative Arts.

The only South West finalist, the school faced competition from independent schools in London, Suffolk, Surrey and Oxfordshire.

The award recognises the school’s exceptional commitment to fostering creativity, artistic excellence and inclusivity.

A dynamic creative arts program plays a central role in the school’s educational offering, with a busy 250-seat theatre routinely hosting school and community productions and performances.

Highlights include the widely acclaimed Crossroads, a musical written by student Scarlett, an upcoming production of Chicago, and a thriving annual festival of rock, jazz, music, drama and the arts involving children from other local primary and secondary schools.

The school’s dedication to creativity extends beyond performance, with an in-house pupil-led drama tech team routinely overseeing every performance and even venturing into filmmaking.

Truro School also educates and supports the boy and girl choristers of Truro Cathedral.

Head teacher Andy Johnson said: “In a national climate where the value of the creative arts can sometimes be questioned in education or the community, we are proud to be championing it instead.

“This award comes at a time when we are amplifying our belief in creativity in partnership with the Cornwall Music Services Trust and other local organisations and advocates, through the building of a new music centre for school and community use.”

Truro School will hold a Senior School Open Morning onSaturday, October 5 from 9.30am. Confirm attendance at www.truroschool.com
