Truro mayor Cllr Carol Swain has cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the Changing Places toilet at the Boscawen Park Tennis Pavilion.

Changing Places toilets are designed for people who struggle to use standard accessible toilets, providing additional equipment such as adult-sized, height-adjustable changing benches, height-adjustable wash basins, hoists, privacy screens and space for carers.

Grant funding for the loo was provided by the Government’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

The facilities are the final part of the Truro City Council-led Boscawen Park project to be completed. They join the Café in the Park, new tennis changing and shower rooms, extra public conveniences including an accessible toilet and baby changing unit, and a room for the Truro Loops project.

The council also co-ordinated the resurfacing of the car park next to the building.

“The City Council is committed to meeting the needs of all our residents and visitors,” said Cllr Swain. “The new Changing Places toilet will mean people with disabilities and their families will be able to visit Boscawen Park and the surrounding areas with confidence that there is access to these facilities.”

A further Changing Places facility is also being provided as part of the scheme to upgrade the public toilets in Green Street, which is being delivered through a partnership between Truro City Council, Cornwall Council and Truro Town Deal Board.

Due to be completed in May, the scheme will also provide a new disabled parking space and a mural.
