The Truro Old Boys will conduct their biannual charity event on Saturday, hoping to raise £3,000 to be split between three charities: Children's Hospice South West, Truro Sea Cadets and Maria’s Animal Sanctuary Probus.
The group was formed in 2017 by retired army major Graham Humphrey, a Truronian by birth. It now numbers around 200 local men who have been friends for many years, some for four decades and with many going to school together or having an affiliation to Truro.
They meet twice-yearly in the White Hart pub for fun, laughter and memories, and crucially, a raffle and auction. Earlier this year, the group was given a Truro Civic Award in recognition of its members’ work.
In total they have donated more than £25,000 to local causes including Cornwall Air Ambulance, the Cornish White Gold Foundation, Man Down, Cornwall RSPCA, Sunny Corner and Coosebean Fairy Trail in Truro, and the Screech Owl Sanctuary.
A football card raffle (tickets £5) comes with a top prize of a piece of Cornish slate decorated to resemble a St Piran flag. To take part, send Graham a message via Facebook or pop by the White Hart at around 3pm on Saturday.
