Truro High School for Girls will once again be flying the flag for Cornwall as the only school in the county to reach the finals of a top educational award.
The school has been named as one of six national finalists for Girls’ School of the Year at the prestigious Independent Schools of the Year Awards. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London next month.
Truro High was also shortlisted in the Pre-Prep of the Year category. Its new Early Years department accepts girls from as young as three years old and has already won national acclaim, recently taking Muddy Stilettos’s EYFS Setting of the Year prize for the dynamic learning it offers to young girls.
Headmistress Sarah Matthews described the nomination as “an incredible honour”.
“We work incredibly hard at Truro High School to give our girls the very best experience that we can, and to have that recognised on a national level and to be in the final six for Girls’ School of the Year is absolutely brilliant,” she said.
“Awards are not what drives us; the happiness of the girls and the opportunities that we are able to give them are what is most important. But to have this benchmarked and for someone else to recognise that what we do is incredible is a brilliant accolade.”
Truro High has just under 400 students aged three to 18. The school is known for its broad offering of extra-curricular clubs and activities alongside excellent teaching. This year 90% of Year 13 leavers are heading to the university of their choice.
