Truro Food Festival will explode back onto the culinary scene in September, a colourful and flavoursome event over five action-packed days.
From September 25 to 29, the festival will coincide with traditional harvest time and showcase local produce and culinary talent, giving local traders and businesses a vital boost at the onset of autumn.
Featuring a star-studded Chef’s Theatre, an abundant Producers’ Village, and a mouth-watering Street Food Corner, the event will take over Lemon Quay and spread the joy further afield across the city, with stalls on Boscawen Street on the Wednesday and Saturday, and pop-up events taking place elsewhere.
It will be hosted by Truro Farmers Market and Cornwall Event Cabins - the team behind The BIG Christmas Market.
Organiser Stewart Girvan said: “We are beyond excited to be bringing back this event, with high hopes it will benefit the Cornish food and drink industry and the region as a whole.
“With the wealth of chefs, producers, and street food vendors on our doorstep, we want this event to be as genuinely local as possible. Cornish businesses will have first refusal across the board, which will also help keep food miles and transport emissions to a minimum.”
Stewart is keeping the chef line-up close to his chest for now, but he promises some big names, local favourites and emerging talent.
Skinner’s Brewery will take charge of the bar, running evening events at The Tap Yard Bar for those who fancy a post-festival pint.
Hospitality students from sponsor Truro College will support the festival crew in the Chef’s Theatre, as well as demonstrating their own culinary prowess on stage.
Abi Steel from Visit Truro said: “We’re thrilled for Truro – this is just what the city needs at that time of year.
“This is just the first year of the festival in its new and exciting incarnation. I know Stewart and the team will start off strong and go on to build the event year on year, introducing new ideas and different ways local businesses can get involved.”
