TRURO Crabbing Competition will take place at Sunny Corner on Sunday from 4pm to 5pm.
There will be teas, coffees and soft drinks available on the day - donations only accepted.
There are three categories: age eight and under; age nine to 12; and age 13-plus. Competitors must register before 3.45pm with the organisers who will be in the shelter.
Only the waterfront from Sunny Corner, towards Sunny Corner House, will be used on the day. The slipway and its immediate surrounds, including the area in front of the house, will be out of bounds.
One crabbing line or net per person is to be used at any one time. Any bait you wish to use is acceptable.
Young children must be supervised at all times, and under 16s need to be accompanied or have evidence of parental consent to participate.
Crabs caught must be held at all times in a bucket (to be provided by competitors) which is large enough and containing water. No harm must come to any crabs caught, and once counted, they must returned to the area from which they were caught.
Contestants can check in their catch at any time before the official closing time of 5pm, and may leave contact details - there is no requirement to stay for the whole duration.
Competitors are required to bring their catch to the shelter to be counted, and to handle and count their own catch under the eye of the competition judges. They may only check in what they have caught themselves - catch-sharing will result in disqualification.
The overall category winners will be determined by the total number of crabs caught. In the event of a tie, the entrant with the largest crab will be deemed the winner. The competition judge is the sole arbiter when deciding the largest crab.
The overall winners of each category will receive framed certificates recognising their achievement. The winners of each class will receive a prize of a shop voucher worth £10.
Championship organisers will decide the outcome in the event of a dispute, and their decision will be final.
