TRURO City FC has made history after becoming the first Cornish team to be promoted to the fifth tier of the English football pyramid.

The Tinners defeated St Albans 5-2 to secure the only automatic promotion place to the National League after being crowned champions of the National League South.

A stadium record crowd of 3,597 roared on the Tinners to victory, which saw goals from Luke Jephcott, Dominic Johnson-Fisher, Tyler Harvey, captain Connor Riley-Lowe and Andrew Neal.

Truro City went in the final game of the season with five other teams vying to win the title with only three points separating them and a goal difference of plus two compared to Torquay United.

Tinners raced into a three goal lead within the first 10 minutes and secured the aggregate win they needed to immortalise the players in Cornish football history.

Hundreds of fans poured onto the pitch after the final whistle to celebrate with the players. Once they dispersed the Truro City FC players gave a victory parade to the cheering crowds.
