ST Columb Major’s town pump that dates back to the Victorian times has undergone a major restoration project.
The town council’s handyman Tomasz Daligewicz has given the pump situated at the end of Fair Street a much-needed makeover.
The town pump was erected around 1850 and was previously refurbished in the 1960s.
The work was carried out on the instruction of the Mayor Cllr Paul Wills and was overseen by the clerk.
Cllr Wills said: “Every town and village had its own pump for people to access essential water.
“The only part of the original pump that’s left is the spout and handle as the rest had rotted away. Tomasz has made a new housing for them and it looks spectacular.
“The housing has a black and gold design to depict the Cornish colours and includes the town’s crest motif. Tomasz has done an outstanding job in refurbishing this part of our parish history.
“It should now, hopefully, be in place for years to come. It is something we can all be proud of.”
