A St Newlyn East rail attraction has celebrated St Piran’s Day in style with the help of a group of talented local musicians.

St Newlyn East Band performed a rousing rendition of Trelawney’s Army whilst riding onboard a train hauled by Lappa Valley’s flagship engine Zebedee.

The train weaved its way through the historic workings of the former East Wheal Rose Mine which is home to the rail attraction.

Matt Bunt from Lappa Valley said: “The rail attraction is based in the heart of the countryside in an area steeped in Cornish history.

It is believed to be the first time a brass band has performed on a train at Lappa Valley ( )

“We’re proud of our Cornish roots and we wanted to do something special for St Piran’s Day.

“I believe this is the first time we’ve had a brass band performing on one of our trains.

“It’s an incredible sight, and when we filmed the video a couple of weeks ago families enjoying their day out were quite bemused by the goings on.

“We are incredibly grateful to the members of St Newlyn East Band for volunteering their time and doing such a great job, especially in quite cold conditions.

“We think they sounded fantastic and the whole experience made us very proud to be Cornish.”
