THE UK's first coconut shy championship is being held in Newquay on Saturday, July 27.
Cult rum brand Old J Spiced Rum is hosting the event at The Boathouse from 12 noon onwards.
Locals are invited to head down to the venue and take their best shot. With five coconuts to knock down in the shortest amount of time possible, only the fasted and most successful throwers will have their scores recorded and put forward to the national winner’s scoreboard.
Hospitality venues and members of the public will be competing against each other, nationally, to be in with a chance of winning a whole host of prizes.
Amie Bradshaw from The Boathouse commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with Old J to host the first National Coconut Shy Championships, right here in Newquay.
“Although we are yet to see much of the sun, it will be the perfect way to kick start summer in our vast outdoor space, and hopefully, Cornwall will be home to the overall UK Coconut Shy Champion!”
Nic Ponticakis from Old J Spiced Rum added: “Coconut shy’s have been around for years and were once at the heart of the traditional British summer fete, where families would – and still do - gather together for a fun day out.
“Summer is finally here so what better way to celebrate than launching the UK’s first national Coconut Shy Championships.”
