The demolition of a prominent former Newquay hotel is well underway.

The derelict Edgcumbe Hotel at Narrowcliff is being knocked down and developers have planning permission in place to build 33 apartments.

Asbestos clearance work has been carried out and the demolition is earmarked to take between four and five weeks.

Developer Noble Build and Design plans to build a mix of nine one bedroom units, 24 two bedroom units, together with associated car parking, and landscape improvements.

The hotel building, which closed in 2015, has steadily become more and more delipidated after being targeted by vandals, squatters and being ravaged by fire.

Previous plans to build 66 apartments on the site were refused as they were deemed to be unacceptable.
