Brave swimmers dressed in their best attire to enjoy a dip in Newquay on New Year’s Eve.

More than 50 women and a number of men wore their finest frocks and suits to take part in the annual Ballgowns on the Beach event staged at Towan Beach.

Swimminwimmin swimming group, which organises the event, encouraged those taking part to stay as safe as possible due to the stormy seas.

Many stayed on dry land and others took the plunge and went in up to their waist.

The popular event was first staged during the Covid pandemic as people could not see out the year in style due to the lockdown.
