IT wasn’t such a relaxing Sunday for a group of surfers who tackled huge waves at the Cribbar.

Visiting French surfer Antoine Bernas along with Owen Stoneman, Andrew Douglas and Pete McNichol were among the waveriders who rode the 20 foot plus waves.

Big wave surfers have enjoyed the Cribbar reef break awakening on a number of occasions in recent weeks.

The reef rarely breaks as it needs a big swell and a long period between each wave.

Strong currents pull surfers out of position so without constant paddling they can unexpectedly find themselves in a dangerous zone where waves are breaking off the rocks.
