SUPERHEROES are set to take a cold dip in Newquay for an annual madcap fundraiser.
The fourth Superhero in the Cold Dip in memory of Amy Gordon will be held at Towan Beach on Sunday, November 17, at 10am.
Amy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her friend Andrea Flannigan came up with the idea of dressing up in superhero outfits and taking a cold dip as they wanted to celebrate all the “superheroes” who are battling cancer.
They staged the fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research UK to educate people on the importance of being cancer aware and to make a difference towards cancer care, treatment and prevention.
Andrea and Amy’s friends now wants keep her legacy going by staging the fourth Superhero Cold Dip after she passed away in March.
Andrea said: “This charity was set up by Amy Gordon to have a fun day to remember all things Amy would promote.
“Living life everyday having lots of love and laughter especially as a family.
“Amy was an amazing fighter and was just incredible every day and inspirational to us all.”
Friend Maggie Robson added: “On March 3 this year, Amy very sadly lost her hard-fought battle with this insidious disease but anyone who knew her please attend the fourth Superhero in the Cold event to celebrate her life, her courage, her humour and determination.
“Anyone who didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Amy, please join her friends to salute the superheroes.
“Anything that can be done to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK keeps Amy’s and other victims’ legacies alive.
“Anyone who is not able or brave enough to spin out of their civvies into a superhero costume for a totally bonkers plunge in autumn waves, please go along to Towan Beach and support those who can.
“They will all be lifted by the electrifying excitement, the unimaginable camaraderie and the dangerously high levels of laughter.”
