The communities of St Just and Pendeen gathered to celebrate St Piran’s Day on Tuesday in nearly wall-to-wall sunshine.

Every child from Brambles Pre-School, The Children’s Ark Pre-School, Pendeen Primary School and St Just Primary School (totalling nearly 300 3-11 year olds) took part in the parade.

They were joined by a 25-strong band Bagas Lannust, who accompanied the singing and the dancing; together with the Mayor, the Cornwall Councillor, Vicar and a number of community groups who carried their banners.

Local groups participating in the procession include Old Cornwall Society, Geevor Tin Mine, the National Trust, Bosavern Community Farm, Douglas Woolcock Transport, Pendeen W.I., St Just W.I. and St Just in Bloom.

Supported by a team of fourteen marshalls, the Plain an Gwarry in the centre of St Just was the focal point of the festivities before the parade took to the streets where the large crowd were watching.

Gold Award winners were Bosavern Community Farm and London House, Silver Awards went to Age Concern and The Wellington Hotel and with Bronze Awards going to St Just Garage and Wild West Works. All other entrants received Certificates of Commendation.
