A CLUB that works to support women and girls across Cornwall, the UK and internationally has raised money for a charity which aids women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within 12 months of giving birth.
St Austell and District Soroptimists held a cheese and wine afternoon to raise funds for Mummy’s Star.
Club member Jane, who is also the Soroptimist regional membership officer of the South West and Channel Islands, organised the event at her home with husband Dave.
More than £350 has been raised and members are looking forward to welcoming a representative from Mummy’s Star at their October meeting.
The club started in 1977 and was chartered in 1978. The members come from all walks of life and are of various ages.
The joint presidents of the club for 2024-2025 are Kay Turner and Diane Walker, with Catherine Hannaford as vice-president. Jeanette Gay is the immediate past president.
Mersedeh Proctor is the honorary secretary, Libby Moore, the honorary treasurer and Jackey Stagg, the chair of the social and fundraising committee.
Rowena Castillo-Nicholls has the role of membership and communications officer, with Claire Penellum being the safeguarding officer and chair of the programme action and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) committees.
