THE Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Menear Road, St Austell, remained closed today (Monday, August 19) following an incident yesterday in which a worker was injured.

Cornwall Council has issued a statement which says: “We will provide updates when the HWRC is reopened. In the meantime, please do not travel to the site.

“We advise that people use the HWRCs at Bodmin, Connon Bridge, near Liskeard, or Truro while the St Austell site is closed.”

The site is operated by contractor Suez on behalf of the council and is usually open every day except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
