ST Austell Players will be transporting audiences to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld on July 10 to 13 with their production of the fantasy play ‘Guards! Guards!’
A spokesperson for the theatrical company said: “Adapted by Stephen Briggs from the book by Terry Pratchett, Guards! Guards! is set in the infamous city of Ankh-Morpork on Pratchett's Discworld.
“Under threat from a 60-foot fire-breathing dragon which has been summoned by a secret society of malcontented tradesmen, the city's only hope is the underpaid, undervalued City Night Watch.
“Unfortunately, the entire watch is made up of a drunken and world-weary captain, a cowardly sergeant, a small opportunistic corporal of dubious parentage... and their newest recruit, Lance Constable Carrot, who is upright, literal, law-abiding and keen.
“Aiding them in their fight for truth, justice and the Ankh-Morporkian way are a small swamp dragon and the Librarian of Unseen University (who just happens to be an orang-utan)...
“Whether a Pratchett superfan, or new to the Discworld, Guards! Guards! whisks each member of the audience away into the wonderful multi-faceted world of dragons, magic and madness!”
Among the cast, Mike Brands plays Captain Vimes, Joe Hirsch takes the role of Corporal Nobbs, and Dorothy Nelson is CMOT Dibbler.
St Austell Players director Sowena Nelson, who is delighted to be bringing this fan favourite to life, said: “I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan and have been itching to put on a play version of his books for years.
“Guards! Guards! is the first time we meet the City Night Watch in the Discworld books, so it was a great choice to bring to life on stage with so many unique and interesting characters.
“I am really lucky that such a talented and passionate bunch of actors were willing to go on this journey with me and I am so excited to share what we've put together with our audiences, not least the challenge of bringing a 60ft fire-breathing dragon into a theatre in St Austell!”
Guards! Guards! will run at the St Austell Arts Theatre from Wednesday, July 10, to Saturday, July 13.
