Meanwhile, in other community news from St Austell, the St Austell Old Cornwall Society reports that the speaker for its March meeting was Paul Holden who talked about the life of Walter Hicks, founder of St Austell Brewery, his family and their contribution to the history of St Austell.

Mr Holden also discussed the various properties the Hicks family lived in or owned.

A spokesperson for the society said: “Our May meeting will be our annual general meeting followed by a picture quiz with the theme of ‘Unusual photos of places in Cornwall’. Will you be able to identify them?

“The meeting will be at 7.30pm on May 13 in the White River Community Church, Trinity Street, St Austell.”

Separately, a talk will be given in Tywardreath tomorrow (Thursday) at 6.30pm.

In Search Of Tywardreath, a community group dedicated to researching the archaeology, history, environment and topography of Tywardreath, is hosting a talk by Iain Rowe on Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Castle Dore and Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

A spokesperson said: “It is the 380th anniversary of the Battle of Lostwithiel this year, part of which took place at Castle Dore. Find out about the major project to protect, maintain and make more accessible to the public, areas of historical importance.

“The venue is Well Street Chapel and the cost is £5. There will be a raffle and refreshments will be available.”
