Thirty-five volunteers of Green & Clean of Camborne group have taken part in the Great British Spring Clean as part of the group's first organised clean-up for 2024.

The Big Clean up covered many roads and streets throughout Camborne, particularly those where cars are parked and where the road sweeper aren’t able to pick up.

Litter was collected in parts of Barripper, Penponds, Beacon and Pengegon as well as many back lanes, parks, the footpath between Beacon and Pengegon including the fields, the pedestrian bridge at Foundry Road and the tramway between Roskear to North Roskear Road.

In all 45 bags of litter were collected plus a few other small items.

Chairman of the group and Cornwall Councillor Paul White said: “The Great British Spring Clean is the nations biggest mass - action environment campaign rolled across the country. We teamed up with Keep Britain Tidy who celebrates it's landmark 70th year protecting the environment which runs from March 15-31.

“A massive thank you to all 35 volunteers who joined myself and members of our group during the last few days. A few people contacted me saying that they couldn't make today's event but they could do another day which was great as I would rather have something done rather than nothing at all. I will always try my best to find ways of clearing up our Town along with my volunteers if I can.

“I know we shouldn't have to do this but sadly unfortunately that's the way it is without us doing it Camborne would be far worse. They all do a fabulous job and are a credit to our Town. It is amazing that we have so many people who are willing to give up their time to try and make life better for everyone.”

The next organised clear up is scheduled for Sunday, April 21.

Paul White also sends his thanks to John Mankee and his Biffa team who will collect the rubbish bags plus other small items left at different locations throughout Camborne.
