WATER bosses are set to present their plans to reduce sewage discharges into Newquay’s coastline.

Alan Burrows, South West Water’s director of external liaison and Andy Pettifer, the company’s waste water operations manager, is due to give a presentation at Pentire Resident’s Association meeting at the Pentire Hotel on Monday, July 15 at 7.15pm.

The talk follows resident’s concerned about the amount of sewage South West Water has pumped into Fistral, Newquay Bay, Crantock Beach and the Gannel.

Campaign group Surfers Against Sewage has stated South West Water discharged sewage at Fistral for over 134 hours in 2023, which equates to over five and a half days of discharges.

Pentire Resident’s Association chairman Murray Johnstone said: “The presentation will be aimed specifically about the investment and works plans for the Pentire and Gannel area, and is not designed to discuss wider or national issues.

“Members have been invited to ask questions in advance so that they may be answered more comprehensively on the night.

“If time permits, then other follow up questions may be addressed. This is a unique occasion to hear directly from South Westr Water about our area and what their plans are.”

A resident’s association spokesperson added: “Our guests will focus on specific plans and investment aimed at improving its record on sewage discharges affecting Crantock, the Gannel, Fistral and Newquay town beaches.”

Mr Pettifer was due to attend a Pentire Residents Association meeting on Monday, April 15 but his attendance was cancelled.
