Helston Sports Centre is launching its all-new Seniors’ Club on Thursday, September 19 from 10am.
People are being invited along to see what’s on offer and take part in the activities available.
These include a legs, bums and tums workout at 1030am, a swimming session at 10.40am and a yoga class at 1pm. There will be free tea, coffee and fruit over lunchtime and the chance to play some boardgames.
Mike Thomas, Independent Cornwall Councillor for Helston North, will be one of those attending the day. As a man in his sixties, he’s a member of the gym and a firm advocate for keeping active.
“Exercise at our age is essential for our physical and mental health,” he said. “A visit to the gym or swimming pool boosts our endorphins and makes us feel so much happier.
“I always notice how happy people sound and look as they leave the centre.”
Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs Helston Sports Centre on behalf of Cornwall Council.
“We warmly encourage anyone interested to come along on the day,” said Amelia Kitchen, GLL’s senior manager in Helston and west Cornwall.
“You can look around, see what’s going on and take part if you want to. National guidance indicates being physically active for between 30 and 150 minutes a week is good for your health. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people from the local community, whilst also getting fitter at a pace that suits you.”
A number of membership and pay-as-you-go options are available and booking for the Seniors’ Club launch event is recommended.
