THE RSPCA Cornwall branch at St Columb is staging two open days for anyone considering rehoming either a cat or dog.

The Venton Centre at Quoit is staging the events on May 25 and 26.

A spokesperson said: “Now that the weather has finally improved this has allowed the two building projects being carried out at the Venton Centre to play catch up.

“Both the new kennels and Education building are rising higher and higher out of the ground, but this means that fundraising events, normally held at Quoit, are having to be hosted elsewhere.

“This has not prevented us offering two open days when anyone considering rehoming either a cat or dog can check out who is looking for a forever home on the RSPCA Cornwall website.”

A new professional Paws dog grooming service is also available on Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment at The Venton Centre, which is currently offering an introductory £10 discount to anyone wanting their pet pooch pampered.

The Venton Centre’s family fun day, in cooperation with Duchy College at the Stoke Climsland campus, will be held on June 23 from 10am to 4pm.

A spokesperson said: “Following the success of the April fun dog show at Watergate Bay we hope people will be interested in attending our family fun day.

“In 2023, we saw around 2,000 people through the gates and are hopeful that this year will be even better.

“We run a very popular family dog show throughout the day and lots of people bring their dogs with them.”

A spokesperson added: “Volunteers are still urgently needed, both to help to man the charity shops in Truro, Newquay and Bude, plus assisting the animal care assistants at Quoit in both cattery and kennels.

“The staff are well known for going that extra yard and recently, Josh Townshend who spends a lot of time keeping the cats happy in both Isolation block and re-homing, completed a skydive to raise over £500.”
