REMEMBRANCE events have been held in Newquay to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Veterans, military personnel and representatives from various groups joined the Newquay Royal British Legion’s parade on Sunday morning, November 10.

The procession, which was led by St Austell Town Band, marched from Fore Street to St Michael’s Church where a Remembrance service was conducted by Reverend Jane Kneebone.

Various groups and dignitaries attended the parade and service including St Austell and Newquay MP Noah Law, Newquay Air Cadets, Newquay Army Cadets, councillors, Newquay Coastguard, Newquay Fire Station, Newquay Ambulance Station, Newquay Police, Newquay RNLI, Newquay Women’s Institute, Lions groups, Women’s Institute, Salvation Army, Newquay in Bloom, Trenance Cottages, Care and Combat, Newquay Hospital League of Friends, Scouts and Guides.

Representatives from the various organisations laid wreaths at the Newquay War Memorial following the church service.

A Poppy Appeal concert was held at St Michael’s Church on Friday night.

The Royal British Legion Newquay Branch hosted the annual fundraiser, which featured the St Mawgan Military Wives Choir, Newquay Male Voice Choir, Newquay Band and Newquay Rowing Club Singers and piper Nigel Warmington.

The RBL branch also held a wreath laying ceremony at the Newquay War Memorial on Monday morning.

Daz Keeler, the chairman of the Newquay RBL branch and parade marshal, said: “It is a very proud day for Newquay to see the town coming together to pay their respects.”

Mr Law said: “It was a privilege to take part in the Remembrance ceremonies in Newquay and lay a wreath, particularly given the importance of Newquay's armed forces community.”
