THE Buttermarket, the recently opened food hall and vibrant community events space in Redruth, has launched a charity Christmas single raising funds for a local Cornish homelessness charity, St Petrocs.

All proceeds from the sale of the single, as well as additional fundraising efforts from the Buttermarket over the festive period, will go to St Petrocs and their valuable work to end homelessness in Cornwall.

The Christmas single - titled ‘Redruth Christmas’ - has been co-written and produced by Redruth locals and comedy rap duo Hedluv and Passman, who regularly tour the regional festival scene with their memorable Casio style and Cornwall-inspired lyrics.

The pair jumped at the chance to collaborate with the Buttermarket to produce a festive song that includes lyrical references to Redruth, Christmas in Cornwall and the offerings at the Buttermarket itself, which opened in the artist’s hometown this November.

Redruth Christmas is available now for purchase via Bandcamp, allowing an easy and direct way for the public to enjoy the song and support the valuable fund-raising efforts for St Petrocs.

Jonathan Bray, general manager at the Buttermarket, commented: “The entire Buttermarket project is about rejuvenating Redruth and putting the town back on the map, all whilst having fun and expressing our Cornish personality along the way, so a Christmas single felt a natural fit to reach as many people as possible and spread some festive cheer!

“What better way to demonstrate our pride in our Redruth roots than with two local celebrities lending their musical talents, showcasing the best of the town whilst raising funds for a worthy cause.”

The Buttermarket, the result of a £4-million restoration project delivered by Community Interest Company Redruth Revival and funding from the National Lottery and Architectural Heritage Fund, is a collection of four permanent and two pop-up kitchens.

The market provides the town with a lively courtyard and event space, and local independent catering ventures with an opportunity to reach new customers.

Louise Reid, Engagement Manager for St Petrocs, added “We were thrilled to hear that we had been chosen as the recipients of the Buttermarket’s fundraising efforts. The song they’ve created is great fun and distinctly Cornish.

“We always encourage people to come up with creative ways to raise funds and it’s heartwarming to see so many people donating to help those in need, especially at this time of year.

“Every donation is received with enormous thanks and we’d like to thank everyone involved for their efforts - who knows, maybe we have a surprise Christmas number one on our hands!”

St Petrocs have been providing support to those without a permanent residence since 1986, with more than 2500 people using their services annually.
