Truro’s Community and Hospital Radio Station is on a recruitment drive to find new volunteers.
The station will finally return to their studios in the tower block at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in March after three years away.
While working remotely they have not been able to recruit any new volunteers, so they are now keen to make up for lost time.
Jean Main-Reade, publicity coordinator for the station, said: “The total impact of the covid restrictions can never be quantified. For CHBN, Truro’s Hospital and Community Radio Station, the consequences were not just financial. For nearly three years, only the technical team have had access to our studios at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Our presenters have been broadcasting from their own mini studios at home.
“However, this time has not been wasted. The studios have been transformed with redecoration and a complete digital upgrade of the broadcasting equipment. In March, the volunteers will be back and looking forward to learning how to use it.
“And, as recruitment had to stop, the charity now wants to welcome new volunteers to the team. “Anyone can volunteer: minimum age 16, and there is no maximum age. No previous experience is necessary and full training will be given.
“As well as presenters, the station needs technical help with maintaining the equipment and the music database. Contact with patients is so important – taking calls in the studio and also ward visiting to collect requests. If you are active on social media we need you to spread the CHBN word in the wider community.
“And, most vital, fundraising. Do you have contacts and knowledge of local businesses; could you persuade them to become one of our associate partners? We also run fundraising events during the year where we need many hands.
“Whatever your talents, CHBN can surely use you. With this in mind, we invite you to come to the County Arms at Highertown on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29 between 10am and 4pm.
“Our volunteers will be there, in the downstairs function room, to talk about what is involved and answer any questions.”
