A pub in Crantock is helping to brighten the festive season for the local community.
The Bowgie Inn will be embracing the season of goodwill this December by hosting a free Christmas get-together for its local community on Wednesday, December 11 between 11am and 5pm.
Owner and Landlady, Sally Pickles, is inviting everyone to visit the ‘Christmas Community Catch-up’ to enjoy a free hot tea or coffee and mince pie with friends and neighbours.
Customers who arrive between 11am to 12pm or 3pm to 4pm will be entered into a Christmas prize draw.
Sally said: “It’s all about sharing some festive spirit, especially for the older members of our community who may not have the opportunity to get out and about or to socialise regularly.
“Pubs, especially in rural communities like ours, often serve as hubs and are vital for bringing people together for social connection. We hope to spread some Christmas cheer and do our bit to support the wellbeing of our community.”
Customers will enjoy a whole host of treats at Bowgie Inn in addition to the free hot tea or coffee and mince pie. There will be Christmas music, magical decorations including eight foot trees throughout the pub, colouring for little ones, a giant Santa and even a gift wrapping station.
Sally said: “The idea behind our gift wrapping station is to make this time-consuming and often last-minute job something fun, communal and easy.
“We will be providing wrapping paper, tape, scissors and ribbon, and we invite our customers to bring their gifts to Bowgie to wrap their parcels whilst enjoying great company and a mulled cider or two.
“The festive event is going to be absolutely buzzing with an amazing atmosphere, collective community spirit, conversations over coffee and all-round festive fun.
“Christmas can be a difficult time of year for those who don’t have friends and family around, so it’s really important to us to provide a space for people to come to share in some lighthearted festivities.”
Bowgie Inn is also running a ‘Star Giveaway’ competition every Sunday. Customers who have enjoyed a Bowgie Sunday Roast will have the chance to win a special prize if they find a lucky star on the underside of their plate.
Sally said: “We will also be donating 50p to Cornwall Hospice Care for every star which isn’t a winner, so even customers who don’t win a prize, will be doing their bit for charity.”
“We're proud to be playing our role in building a kinder, closer, and more connected community.
“Pubs are more than just places to eat and drink; they are community spaces where relationships are nurtured and new connections are made. We can’t wait to see everyone here for our special Christmas Community Catch-up and throughout December.”
