A right-wing ‘peaceful’ protest is planned against asylum seekers being housed at a Newquay hotel.

Protesters say they plan to block the road in both directions outside the Beresford Hotel at Narrowcliff on Saturday, February 25 at 11.45am.

The demonstration seems to be being organised by right wing party Reform UK Cornwall.

So far 67 people have stated they are going to the event being publicised on social media and 301 are interested in attending

.It has previously been stated the asylum seekers and migrants will only be housed at the Beresford Hotel during the winter so the tourism season is not impacted.

Newquay MP Steve Double has stated cheaper accommodation sites will be made available so that migrants staying at places like the Beresford Hotel in Newquay can be moved out.

News of the planned protest at the Beresford Hotel comes after riot police were called to a hotel for asylum-seekers after clashes involving protesters in Merseyside.

A police van was seen on fire outside the property as hundreds of people demonstrated in Knowsley. Footage shared on social media shows large crowds gathered, with dozens of police, including some with riot helmets and shields.

The Voice has asked the police for comment about the plans to stage the protest in Newquay.
