You may not think of a 150-year-old police station as somewhere that you would want to live - but a look inside this unique property might change your mind.

Cherrywood House, in Bodmin, was built in 1867 as the main police station for the area and reputedly for the entirety of Cornwall, as Bodmin was the county town.

Until the station was built, Bodmin’s police force consisted of just two officers under the title of Bodmin Borough Police, but in 1866 it became part of the Cornwall Constabulary.

On the ground floor of the former station, there is a kitchen/breakfast room with space for a range cooker and a Belfast sink, leading to an “impressive” sitting room with picture rails and a decorative fireplace.

Also on the ground floor are a dining room, a bedroom, a WC, a utility room and a shower room.

Upstairs, a spacious landing offers access to three double bedrooms and a family bathroom, with one of the bedrooms boasting feature ornate windows.

The property has been brought to market by Stags for a price of £450,000.

Anna of Stags Launceston commented: “Cherrywood House, a former police station, is a home with huge character and status which is prominently positioned within walking distance of numerous amenities.

“The property offers a fantastic opportunity for those who are looking for a larger family home with 4/5 bedrooms, or those looking for something to annexe a relative or to change into multiple dwellings subject to any necessary consents.

“There is a wealth of character features as the property dates originally back to the 19th Century, benefitting as well from 2 parking spaces and a courtyard to the rear.”
