POLICE cordoned off a part of St Columb Major on Monday night (July 15) after a suspected grenade was dug up in a garden.

Police were called to West Park at 8.05pm after what was thought to be a WWII grenade was discovered.

Six properties were cordoned off and residents were told to stay in their homes whilst the incident was dealt with.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended shortly before 11pm and removed the device for safe disposal.

People had to leave their vehicles around the town whilst the cordon was in place.
