A POPULAR paddle fundraiser held in Newquay is set to make a welcome return.

The Joe Way Paddle for Life will be staged at the harbour on Thursday, June 26, at 4pm.

Various paddle races in aid of a number of charities will be staged in memory of Joe Way who passed away aged four in 2008.

There will also be live music and a sky dive demonstration at the event being held in partnership with Towan Blystra Lions and Surf Life Saving Cornwall.

Joe’s father Matt Way said: “As a family we are delighted to welcome close friends and new back to the Joe Way paddle event to celebrate what would have been his 21st birthday.

“After COVID stopped our last event in 2020, we have taken a break and felt that it was maybe time to call it a day after 12 years of celebrating Joe's life and helping others with over £180,000 raised for over 20 different charities.

“But it felt like the right time to do something positive in the community as everyone has had a hard couple of years and there is no better way to stage the paddle to celebrate Joe’s memory.

“The date is set, and we are calling for volunteers and business support once again, our mantra is all donations go to good causes as everyone give their time, support and equipment for free.

“We have always been lucky enough to have four headline sponsors, who feature on all the posters, banners, 3,000 flyers, social and press releases.

“We have three of our four sponsors, which include St Columb Financial Services, Start & Co and Pitched holiday park specialists.

“They each contributes £500 into the main fundraising pot. This is given to one of the charities we support or a charity of their choice in Joe's memory.”
